RUGBY FOOTBALL The Waitaki Sub-union has agreed to play the Town v. Country match at Oamaru on June 3. The selectors for the Ashburton, South Canterbury and North Otago combined team to play the British team, will be present, and in all pi-o bability the combined team will be selected that evening. The North Otago representative team to play the Ail Blacks will also be chosen. The combined selectors will meet at Timaru to-day A correspondent, under the nom de plume of “ Enthusiast," writes as follows:—“It was with a feeling of disgust that I read in your columns this morning the names of players nominated fay the selectors of the North Otago Rugby Union for the South Island Possibles v. Pro babies’ match. Allow me to refer to the non-inclusion of A. Malcolm, who has been the most outstanding footb'aller m North Otago this season. He is a great scoring man, as evidenced by the fact that he has scored some 30 points or so of a total of 44 for Old Boys this season. Ot the players nominated 1 will say nothing but simply state that the selectors have proved themselves as having little knowledge of the players in the district this season. Although it is not the usual thing, I would suggest that, if the selectors wish to merit the confidence of players and patrons, they should give some explanation of the reason why Mai colm was not included ’in the nominations,” OAMARU BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
