WILD ESCAPADE.

"RAG" AT FORMER SCHOOL. Sir. Charles Thomas Mappin, a 21-year-old London baronet, is an old boy of an English college. The other day he met Stephen Congdon, aged 21, who was at the college with him- They decided to revisit: their old school. ' As a: result of that visit Sir Charles and Mr Congdon were charged at Wokingham with offences that ranged from wifido w-breaking to damaging a golf course. Norman Lester, whose mother owns the Wellington Hotel, Crowthorne, said Sir Charles abd Air Congdon motored to the hotel and asked to be allowed to have a “spruce up."’ They started throwing i hair brushes and soap about, and broke a window. Sir Charles was very intoxicated . and Congdon slightly less so. After leaving the hotel the two drove over the East Berks golf course, cutting up the putting greens. They went into the grounds of the college where they - knocked down six wooden posts lining a roadway, . Then they went to the Royal Military College, where—according to the gatekeeper—they drove in at 40 miles an; 'hour. They took two Tower of London sabres off a wall in the new college and went to the old college. Here they were found .breaking the fire-alarm and tearing notices off the notice boards. They wer* detained by the college cadets. Sir Charles Mappin told the magistrate * that he and Congdon had been celebrating the latter’s return from South Africa. It was their first meeting since leaving college. ; . Congdon said: One thing led to another,' and at the time it all seemed very funny. Colonel Barker, the chairman, said: 1 have had a certain amount of experience of public school and university and a little soldiering, but I have never heard of anyone who made such cast-iron fools of themselves as you." ..... - A larceny charge was dismissed.
