Mr J. E. Macassey was a passenger for Timaru by the second express yesterday. Mr Justice Kennedy will leave for Invercargill during the week-end to preside over the quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court, which will begin on Monday. Mr P. E. Tyson has been appointed local. manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company as from June 1. Sir John Roberts, Messrs C. W. Rattray, 6. R, Ritchie, and S. K. Sleigh left Dunedin by the second express yesterday on their way to Wellington. Mr J, H. C. New Zealand Trade-and Tourist Commissioner to'.Australia, has been in Dunedin during the past two days for the purpose of interviewing firms interested in the export trade to Australia, Mr Schmitt was entertained at morning tea at the Savoy by the executive of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday morning. He was also interviewed by the executive of the Otago Expansion League relative to matters concerning the tourist resorts of this district. He left for Invercargill by last evening’s express. On Tuesday evening last a social gathering, representative of the various organisations of the Maori Hill Presbyterian Church, met in the Sim Street Hall to bid farewell to Mr J. S. Park, who is leaving the district to take up a position in ’Wellington. During the course of the evening, Mr J. Hogg,, after referring to Mr Park’s excellent work as church treasurer, presented. him, on behalf of the office-bearers, choir, and Sunday school staff, with a wristlet watch and a set of military brushes. Several other speakers bore, testimony to Mr Park’s character and work in the various spheres of the church’s life; 1 Mr Park .suitably responded. During the evening interesting competitions were engaged in, and solos were rendered very acceptably by Mrs J. L. Gregory, Messrs' H. Harvey and A. M’Dowell, Mr C.-A, Martin being the accompanist.
