Dr Noble, the Australian delegate, at the first meeting of the International Committee for Mental Hygiene, 1 made a plea for international understanding of Australia’s aspirations in her White Australia policy." He said that such understanding was a. most important factor to the country’s mental hygiene. He stated that,by means of racial purity Australia was seeking to avoid many of.; the problems of which ’the - representatives of dthet nations, spoke and which" were, shown to be on ’ the. increase, due to. the. intermixture of races. , Dr'Emerson, (New York professor of Public Health) -stated that by such a policy of strengthening the ■ mental and physical purity •of the race Australia might »expect to avoid the. suicide problem, which had been quadrupled in the United States in 70 years, and the divorce problem, which had been tripled in the United States in 50 years.
