FORBURY PARK TROTS. SUCCESSFUL OPENING DAY. CARMEL WINS CHIEF EVENT. The winter meeting of the Forbury Park Trotting Club was opened in glorious weather —bright Sunshine without a breath of wind. The spectators were treated to some fine racing, and an additional ,attraction was the performance of Mr C. D. Hudson’s Todd Lonzia, who has set the first record for a mile for a two-year-old for New Zealand and Australia at 2min 22 2-ssec —time which will .take some beating. The totalisator handled £23,082 10s for the day, as against £21,950$ 10s for the corresponding day last year, and this despite the fact that the betting in the race for the Sire’s Produce Stakes was very restricted. Wrackeen held her place well, and going past the stand at the end of five furlongs was still closely attended by Warepa and Lingfield, with Morning Sun, Neerson, and Vendome bunched behind. Wrackeen held to it in good style going down, the back, where Morning Sun was showing up. Wrackeen was first into the straight, and she came on to win well by two lengths from Morning Sun, who was two lengths ahead of Lingfield. Then came Vendome, with the others beaten off. Times: 2min 47 3-ssec, 2min 48sec, 2min 48 3-ssec. NOTES ON THE RACING. C. S. DONALD’S RUN OF SUCCESS. A feature of the racing at the Forbury Park meeting yesterday was the run of success experienced by the Belfast trainer, C. S. Donald, who handled three winners, while he also drove the second horse : in the Flying Handicap. Donald now looks certain to top the lists of winning trainers and drivers for the season. FIFA WINS COMFORTABLY. Deceitful and Great Nelson were taken out of the Bayfield Handicap, and Jean Ballin wan made a good favourite over Fife, with solid support coming for Stand By. Saka Bona began very quickly, and running past the stand, she had a verybig lead. Ambition, who had begun well, was in fourth place at this ssage, alongside Fifa, who was trotting very soundly. Running into the last lap Saka Bona was still well out in front, Fifa having run into second place, but the Bon Homme mare left her feet over three furlongs from home, and Fifa took the lead. Trotting faultlessly she went on to win easing up from Hydro, who finished well. ‘ Stand By is the most likely to improve on first day’s form. It looked as though Ambition was allowed to make up her ground too quickly. Jean Ballin was never prominent. A PROMISING FOUR-YEAR-OLD. Knowledge and 1 Lydia Pointer were scratched for the Domain Handicap, and

j Belinda was just a little better backed \ than Ulm, while Lady Zephyr and Happy i Lass were also supported. The favourite i began well, and passing the stand she was j tucked in behind Radio in third place, i and going easily. Radio put in a burst running down the back, and she led Belinda into the final tap, while Ulm had run into third place. Three furlongs from home Lady Zephyr moved through . very fast, and she trailed Belinda into the straight, Radiq and Ulm being next, ihe confidently driven favourite was not troubled in the run home, and she looks certain to do better. Happy Lass did not begin well, and did not" act kindly during the running. Ellegro and Free Chimes allowed pace in patches, while Radio and Ulm did not finish on well. HOT FAVOURITE BEATEN. They ail went to the post for the Beach Handicap, Peter Daunt being made a very warm favourite, with Nelson’s Victory the next -best supported. Lady Antrim and Iree Pointer lost their chances at the start, and the favourite, beginning well, was soon out in front on the rails. At the end of throe furlongs Simchild was taken up to the leader, and they opened up a gap running down the back, where El Direct was going well, while Erms fortune was showing a tendency to hitch Price was uneasy on Peter Daunt when turning for home, and the Petereta gelding was passed first by Sunchild and then by El Direct, who finished particularly well, and won easily at the finish. The favourite had every chance, but. was not, good enough, while Nelson’s Victory was never prominent after being slow out of the barrier. M. Holmes handled the winner cleverly. EASY WIN FOR WHITE SATIN. It was not' surprising to find White batin being backed down to a “ Gloammg price in the Sires' Produce Stakes, and. her backers never had any anxious moments. She settled to her work quickly, and trotting faultlessly and with her ears pricked, she led the procession throughout. The Wrack three-year-old will next season step her way into the best of company. R, Townley’s represen* tatives trott e( i very solidly all the way, and the Winchester trainer should win races with each of them. Huia Biugen and Native Bingen were beaten off, but the. latter is a likely-looking sort. As a lacing spectacle the-event was disappointmg, and it did not contribute much to the totansator turnover. FAVOURITE WINS BIG RACE.Sunshower was taken out of the Prince ot Wales Handicap, and in a good pool Garmel was made favourite, with Native Prince carrying a few more tickets than Kennerly s bracket, with heavy support for Author Jinks. Lingfield began the best, and, taking the rails, she led The jsnrew and Carmel past the stand. Running down the back Native Prince put in a fine burst, and with 10 furlongs to go he was alongside The Shrew in second place. Lingfield was still going well in front, and with a round to go she led Native Prince, The Shrew, and Carmel, ■three furlongs from home, the Aucklandowned pacer went out into the lead and Donald sent Carmel after him. It was a fine race home between the two, but Carmel finished the stronger and won nicely, but with nothing more than his winning margin in hand. Jean M’Elwyn again stepped into a place, after getting anything but the best of runs in the last round. The Shrew faded a long way from home, and Lingfield stopped in the last bit. Author Jinks was slow away, and after getting handy to the leaders three furlongs from home, failed to finish on. They went the first mile in 2min 16sec, the last half in Imin 4 2-sseo, and the last quarter in 31 2-ssec. TONIC SCORES WELL. Nelson’s Boy was taken out of the St. Clair Handicap, for which Jock Bingen and Dolores were the best backed, with any of the others showing good prices. Great Bell began well and led out of the straight the first time, but sbe broke, and Boneta went out with the lead from Jock Bingen and Quickfire. Nothing was going better than Jock Bingen at this stage. Running into the second last lap; Boneta

rA ’^ occ Bingen, Quickfire, Tonic, and Dolores, and so they ran until a circuit from home, where Tonic took third place. Jock Bingen gathered Bonetu up running down the back, and Bryce’s horse led *Mic to the straight. Under pressure, Jock lifted halfway down the running, and Tonic won easing up. He is not regarded as a stayer, but he saw this, race out well. Swiftbine was iu one of ms bad moods and broke badly, Dolores showed groat speed when travelling at the right gait, and carries every indication of being an early winner. RENOWN HANDICAP TO ST. GEORGE. Hakari. Mary Loeauda, Nor’-wester, and Baron Bingen were scratched for the Reciown Handicap, for which Morrison was made a good tavouritc. with Pink Sugar and Lydia the next best backed. The j marshalling of the. big field gave some | trouble, Vecto being in an intractable mood i ®nd doing his best to damage lus sulky. | When they were let go, Brentlight led j out from St. George, with Becky de Oro and Sunshade also prominent. Running | down the back, Morrison, who had hung at the start, was pacing through the field in great style, and with a round to go he was just in behind Brentlight, with St. George going well. Brentlight led to the straight, but St. George put in great work over the final furlong and won with something in hand. Alva Lass finished very fast in third place and is a much improved mare. The winner has always been credited with speed, but is doubtful at the barrier. Morrison stopped badly. WRACKEEN ALL THE WAY. All those on the card went to the post Tor the Flying Handicap, and Vendome Morning Sun and the Lingfield-Wilma Dillon bracket all carried oig figures, with Wrackeen next in the public’s choice. When they were sent on their way several of the horses hung badly, including Wilma Dillon, who lost a big stretch of ground. Wrackeen got well away, and, hugging the rails all the way, she was never headed. Lingfield lay second to her for the first three furlongs, when Warepa passed her, and, running into the last lap. Wrackeen led Warepa, Lingfield, and Morning Sun. The last-named put in good work over the last bit, but had no chance of heading Wrackeen, who looks hke keeping Wrack’s name prominent. Vendome was finishing well and should he improved by the race. ACCEPTANCES FOR SATURDAY.
