MONTHLY MEETING, The monthly meeting of the executive of the St. John Ambulance Association was held on Wednesday evening. Dr Falconer occupied the chair, and - there were also present Mrs 6. M. Davies, Miss Burt, and Messrs Hanson, Moir. Peters apd White. Mrs G. M. Baker and Messrs J- J. Clark and T. Somerville sent apologies for absence. P r -Falconer read a memorandum published yesterday regarding the inauguration of a co-operative nursing system, on the. lines of those which have been so successful in Victoria and Canada, and in force in Canterbury. It was decided to submit the scheme to the Dominion executive in Wellington for consideration. The secretary’s reports gave the usual information in connection with finance, transport, and district nursing. The financial statement was a gloomy document, stating that ,thc association had about £65 in the bank wherewith to pay accounts estimated at about £l5O, while in consequence of the present depression demands for help were increasing daily. The sewing guild, applied for. a grant of £3O for the purchase of material to be made into garments for the poor, and it was that the guild was constantly receiving very .pathetic appeals to which it was unable to respond. The matter was a very urgent one. The chairman said that unfortunately the association simply did not have the money to give. It would be made a first charge on any funds which might be received, and he felt.sure that when the public became aware of the facts assistance would be forthcoming. In the meantime the situation was very rc-i grettablc, but there it was. The Finance’ Committee, would be called together as soon as possible. _ During April the ambulances covered 436 miles and conveyed 86 patients. The district nurses paid 405 ri sits, and seven new patients had been added to their list —Floating in the air 2000 ft above the earth, an aerodrome made of heavy wire netting i 8 to be tried out in America.
