“ THE PRIVATE SECRETARY.”
The fina presentation of " The Private Secretary by the Dunedin Strolling Players wgs given in the concert chamber of the Town Hall last night to an audience which thoroughly enjoyed the humour of the comedy. It is a good many years since Frank Thornton, who afterwards extended - his fame as a comedian, caused the occupants of the Princess Theatre _ to become convulsed with laughter at his wnoderful impersonation of Robert Spalding,, the innocent, inoffensive clergyman who fills the part of a private secretary in the play. Mr George Salmond is to be complimented upon his impersonation of an exceptionally difficult part to fill in the character of Spalding, and those included in the remainder of the ■ cast are to be commended for their quite satisfactory and, intelligent of the dramatis personae who play round the Rev. Robert Spalding. _ The performances have been for the benefit of the Y.M.C.A.. and, seeing that the attendances have not been meagre, the funds should have received a substantial addition.
