The members'of the New Zealand cricket tearri which is .to visit England at the end of next season should not find the wickets in the Homeland greatly different from those to which they have been accustomed, according to,Mr War* wick Armstrong, a former Australian test player, “ft is generally considered, he said, ‘ that the wickets in New Zealand are very much the same as'those in England. Especially does this apply to the'wickets in. the South Island.?’ . Asked-what he considered would be an, ideal combination to visit Eriglahd, Armstrong said that one of the essentials of the team would be a left-hand bowler. It would be necessary to have one or two really good spin bowlers, as they almost invariably did well against the Home sides. Left-hand batsmen were always of considerable value on an English tour, and the New Zealand selectors would ■ do well to .include one or two of these in the team. A good fielding side, of course, was also essential, as men alert in the field could save many runs. Another point to be kept in mind in selecting a team was the age question. It was his recommendation that the players as a whole should be young, but that, or three men with experience of big cricket should also be chosen. I have been out of touch with New Zealand cricket for several years, and know little about • tho players,” he confessed. “In these circumstances I am not able to voice any opinion as to how tho Dominion team is likely to fare against the Englishmen.”
