The famous collection of old musical instruments assembled by Wilhelm Heyer, of Cologne, and acquired from him by the State of Saxony, has now been assembled in the Grass! Museum in Leipzig The 2600 catalogue numbers include a great number of historic instruments of all kinds, among them the Christofori pianoforte, with the earliest hammer mechanism, made in Florence in 1726, and a hammer pianoforte by Stein, Augsburg, from 1773.
