ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION.
SUPPLY SHIPS REPORTED. LONG DISTANCE FROM PANAMA. ■; Advice received by Messrs H. L. Tanley Co. states that the Byrd 1 Antarctic Jtxpedition supply ships City of New York and Eleanor Bolling, which are en route from Dunedin to America were yesterday between Tahiti* and Panama, the City of New York being in tow of » the steamer. On Tuesday afternoon the vessels were 1270 milep'KNSS. of-Die-*, appointment Island, and making slow progress. They then had approximately 2500 miles to cover on the voyage to Panama canal. Rear-admiral R. E. Byrd and five mem-' bers ot the expedition are travelling by the motor liner Rangititi to Panama, where the ship is due pn May 15 The present position of the supply ships indicates that they are not likely tb reach Panama until some days after the Rangitiki bo that the expedition leader and bis companions will have a somewhat ■ lengthy stay at the canal zone. It is Admiral Byrd’s intention to complete his journey to New York by the flagship of the expedition.
