The newly-formed No. 2 Subdivision is now complete. All vacancies are filled, recruiting has ceased, and the first parade was held at headquarters, Towaiey street, last evening. The training of this subdivision will be carried out each Tuesday evening, commencing at 7.30 o’clock. . The boatshed which, by the courtesy'of tfie Otago Harbour Board, has been built in the slipway enclosure, is finished and ready for use; The whaler, mentioned in my notes some time ago, arrived by the Wingatui and is complete with sails and oars. This is to be used for the training of ; reservists in boat'pulling and sailing, and will be housed in the new shed. The granting of the site for the shed by the Otago Harbour Board is much appreciated by the Navy Office, as well as by tne members of the Otago division* THE OTAGO MOUNTED RIFLES. , Musketry. The newly-formed Cromwell troop held a “ us “ etr y parade at Cromwell yesterday, and the Alexandra troop holds a similar parade at Alexandra to-morrow. (W.O. I) S. W. R. C. Whyte. There are still certain.members of the Ist Battalion Otago Regiment who have yet to complete their annual musketry course/ and for this purpose two special parades have been,arranged as follows; (a) Wednesday, May 7 (this afternoon); (b) Saturday, May 10. This platoon is to be specially trained as a demonstration platoon, and will be in command of Lieutenant H. W. R, R. Chiles. All the boys are .very keen, and Lieutenant Chiles i 0 confident that his platoon will be a model one in every sense of the word. Kent the present officer commanding, his oftleers and (W.O. 1) S.S.M. C. B. Wright, N.Z.P.S;, are to be congratulated on the wonderful standard of efficiency to which they have brought the compony, and the company which can beat them for the Campbell Statuette will deserve its victory. i The result is being eagerly awaited by all who have the welfare of "C” Company, 3rd (C) Battalion OH. at heart.

Mead, D. 5.0., JLZ.S.Ch, is to deliver a lecture at the Officers Club afterwards. *w 6 subject chosen, "The Development ot foreign Armies,” as handled by Major Mead, should prove thoroughly interesting, and a large attendance at the club is expected.
