WAR BOOKS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Your cable columns have of late made frequent reference to the flood of war books of an undesirable nature. ' Many of these have not yet been offered to the New Zealand readers, but one has no doubt that they will eventually appear here. Is there no method by which this unhealthy stream may be stopped? If the purveying of dirt were paid for at relief work wages, such books would never be writen, but while the decadents of older countries seek such spice for their palates tnc carrion crows will bo busy. One is not concerned with the truth, or otherwise, of such books. Contemporary novelists do not find it necessary to itemise the contents of the cuspidors of their characters, nor to descend into the sewage systems for material to describe a city. Yet cuspidors and drains exist. One trusts that some steps will be taken to keep from the shelves ot our book shops further efforts of the typo referred to. —I am, etc., j> 9i I— " ’
