PIGEON FLYING.
The Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club flew a flock race, from Christchurch on Saturday last. Conditions were good for flying, and a fast time was put up. Fiftyfour birds from 10 lofts were liberated in a light north-east wind by Mr S. G. Mallard, and although a slight head wind was encountered over the home end of the journey, the winning bird flew the 190 miles to the owner’s loft in four hours 20 minutes. The other placings followed very closely, and are as follows (velocities in yards per minute): — C. Conley’s Mischief (1333.1 yards), 1; C. Buxton’s True Blue (1331.4). 2; F. Jones’s Sparton (1326.7), 3; H. Millard’s Sonia (1326.3), 4; A. Stevenson’s Black Satin (1325.8), 5. Birds entered by J. Seoullar, G. Coutts, J. Hardgrave, W. Hargreaves, and J. Lynn also competed.
