MR F. J. LAKE.
One of the honoured pioneers in local industry is Mr F. J. Lake, he having been in business for over half a century. He started out as an employer as a general tinsmith and plumber on the Main South road, Cavereham, in 1875, and his assisting staff consisted of one boy. Some years later he turned bis attention to the making of canisters. It was then that he decided to erect the present factory in Moray place, opposite First Church. When he first started to make canisters Mr Lake employed six hands,, but the production has increased to such an extent that nearly 30 are required to cope with the demand. Mr Lake is one of a Comparatively small number who have carried on a business from its foundation'ss l years ago till the present time. Canisters of all descriptions and sizes are turned out from plain or printed tin, the most up-to-date printing machinery having been installed for the purpose of catering for that branch of the trade.
