GENERAL NEWS.

On Monday evening the inmates of the Benevoletft Institution were entertained by Mr Norman Tate. In addition to rendering a number of musical items, Mr Tate gave an exhibition of juggling and "club swinging, which greatly delighted hia audience. The sick in the hospital" were not forgotten, and in each of the four wards he cave a short entertainment. At the conclusion, on the call of the manager of the home (Mr G. J. Sutherland), three hearty cheers were given for Mr Tate. The members of -the Young Helpers' League (Dr Barnado's Homes) had a very happy box opening tea party last Friday at the' PresbyteriaD Hali. Maori Hill. Connie Holm and David Campbell obtained prizes for having the ■ « highest amount in their boxes. Themem--bers'then sat down to tea. provided by Mrs W. Koss (president) and Mrs H. Neil (vice-president). At the close the warden gave a short address and very warmly thanked Mrs Koss and Mrs Neil ' for the happy:time they had given them. Mrs Koss, in response, gave a charming little speech urging all present to be loyal and faithful members. This ended a very successful tea party. In connection with the Ravensbourne branch of the Young Helpers' League (Dr Barnardo's Homes). a very delightful sale was held on Saturday at the Druid's Hall, Ravensbourne. The Warden was in attendance, and she was greatly cheered at the generous response to the appeal made for goods. The stall-holders were as follows:—Fancy stall, the warden and Miss M. Richardeon;'produce stall. Miss Rix; refreshment stall', Mrs Richardson and Mrs Kay; dips. Miss and Master Connor. The members of the league were entertained to tea by .. the president (Mrs • Richardson). Mrs Kay, and Mrs Jack (vice-presidents).' During tea. four silver badges were presented to members of the league. A little gift was presented to Mrs Rix. who has . ( ■ been the energetic secretary. The warden wished her all happiness and , expressed the gratitude for the work Miss Rix had done for the Ravensbourne branch.
