STRIKE AT FOOTSCRAY. MEATWORKS EMPLOYEES. (United Pres* Association.) *{By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, May 6. (Received May 6, at 10 p.m.) Three hundred and fifty employees at the meatworks of Angliss and, Co., at Footscray, are on strike for higher rates of pay for handling export Carcass meat. The management will close the large works indefinitely if the trouble is not settled in a few days. MYSTERY OP THE SEA. 0 LIGHTS DISAPPEAR. SYDNEY. May 6. (Received May 6, at 10 p.m.) The Navigation Department in Sydney has received a message from the steamer Taranaki, which is off the Queensland coast, stating that' the crew saw the lights of a small steamer proceeding west off Gape Cleveland last night, and suddenly the lights disappeared. A* search was made, hut nothing was found'. The sea at the time was moderate. The matter remains a mystery.
