THE FRENCH PRESIDENT
A VISIT TO ALGERIA. - TRIBUTE FROM TRIBESMEN. , (United Press Association.) (By. Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) ALGIERS, May 5. (Received May 5, at 11 p.m.) Ten thousand bearded desert warriors, mounted on black and white horses and racing camels, paid a tribute to President Doumergue, who visited Algeria on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the French conquest. They assembled on Hussein Bey Plains, above Algiers, and demonstrated amazing horsemanship. They were clad in flowing robes and were using saddles which were mostly studded with gold. They galloped and charged on the plains in mass formation, firing rifles from their hips. Tribes travelled upwards of 2000 miles over the desert, spending two months in a great trek. The oldest sheik in Algeria presented President Doumergue with an Arab charger, which is the noblest possible gift from a tribe.
