WATERSIDE WORKERS
THE AUSTRALIAN DISPUTE. PREFERENCE CLAIM REJECTED, (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph— Copyright.) . _ MELBOURNE, May 5. (Received May 5, at 11 p.m.) . The climax to the dispute between the Waterside Workers’ Federation and the shipowners concerning the employment of free labour, came before the Arbitration Court. Mr Justice Bceby rejected the claim by the Waterside Union for preference, and he directed attention to the part the union had played in strikes on the waterfront, and said that the court had long ago laid it down thqt the granting of preference did not guarantee industrial peace.
