CONCERT AT BENEVOLENT INSTTTUTION.

A very successful concert was given at the Benevolent Institution on Saturday evening by Miss Jimsie Fraser’s concert party. There was a large attendance of staff, inmates, and friends. This was the first concert of the 1930 session, and appreciation was expressed by the manager of the institution (Mr Sutherland) of Miss Fraser’s interest and consistency in organising concerts of such a' high standard over a period of eight years. The following programme was contributed :—Community sing, old folk | violin and pianoforte duet. Miss Olive West and Mr H. French; Irish jig, Miss Norma Williams; soprano solo, “ Where the Bee Sucks,” Master David' Alderton; Highland fling, Misses Jean Clack and Evelyn .Williams; vocal solo, “ The Standard on the Braes o’ Mar,” Mr Bert Freeman; clog dance, Miss Nonna Williams; violin solos, Miss Milly Alderton; sailor's hornpipe, Miss Jean Freeman ; soprano solos, Mrs H. Bradley; mandoiiq guitar• selections, Mrs F. Jones; humorous character sketch, Mr Charles Abbott; bagpipe selections, Piper George Yardley; Highland dance —Misses Jean Freeman, J. Clack, Eileen Jones, Norma and Evelyn Williams ; the accompanists were Mr George Yardley, Mr Axel Newton, and Miss Olive West. ■ During the evening Misses Olive West, Alderton, Mr H. French, and Piper Jones, E, and N. Williams, Master David Alderton, Mr H. French, and Piper George Yardley entertained sick patients in the various hospital wards.
