AWARDS FOR BRAVERY. •(Pee United Pbesb Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. May 6. The Royal Humane Society's gold medal has been awarded to Mias Ella Munro, o£ Devonport (Auckland), who, on February 23, at Muriwai beach, North Auckland, respued three persona, from drowuing. Three bathers were in difficulties off the beach owing to the undertow, and Miss Munro brought them all ashore one by one. She was almost exhausted after the second rescue, but . undauntedly swam out again and brought , in ah unconscious man. “This is a case of outstanding merit and worthy; of' the highest award we can give,” said the chairman (Mr 0. Morris), at the meeting to-day of the Court of Directors of the society. The bronze medal : was awarded _to Thomas Richards (aged 26), for rescuing John W. Milligan from a scrub fire. Milligan died later from burns. ' A - certificate was awarded to Frank Charles Little (aged 20), who tried unsuccessfully ito rescue a man from the surf at Tokomaru Bay. 'Letters of commendation were handed to Leslie P. Fox (Miramar, Wellington), Mrs Doris J. Harris (of Devonport, Auckland), both for rescues from drown-. 1 ihg.
