It ia understood that an effort is being made to commute the sentence on the grounds of his mental condition. Sidney Henry Fox was found guilty at the Old Bailey and was. sentenced to death for the murder of his mother in room 6<j of the Hotel Aletropole. Tile trial was one of the most sensational for years,- the scene of the crime being reconstructed in the court and expert witnesses giving evidence concerning the effects of strangulation on a victim. The Crown’s case was that Fox insured his mother’s life for £3OOO the day before she was found dead in the hotel, and that he strangled her, then set fire to the room.
