V.R.C. MEETING. GREENLINE WINS NEWMARKET HANDICAP. ST. LEGER STAKES TO PHAR LAP. (Untied Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph— Copyright.) ■ MELBOURNE, March 2. (Received March 2, at 5.5 p.m.) Pine, warm weather prevailed for the Victorian Racing Club’s meeting. There was a large attendance, including numerous interstate visitors and a few New Zealanders. Lord Bounty led all the way in the Pines Hurdles,'and won comfortably. He has had three wins and one second in his last four starts over the battens. Amounis was not troubled in recording his sixth successive victory when he won the Essendon Stakes. He also won this event two years ago.' His shake winnings are now approximately £36,700, making him fifth among the Australian stake winners. Thurlstone had a brilliant victory in the Sires’ Produce Stakes. He cost his present owner, Mr R. Turnbull, who is a member of the V.R.C. Committee,. 325 guineas as a yearling. He has started four times, scoring two wins, a second, and a third, and has won £4298 in stakes. His trainer (Mulcahy) also has Kaftan. Greenline, on the outside rails, was fourth early in the race, and had, a brilliant win 'in the Newmarket Handicap. There was prolonged cheering for his rider (Pike), who won on Amounis, and captured the Newmarket Handicap . Gothic in 1928. Greenline had the highest weight carried by the winning horse in the history of the race. His victory stamps him as one of the foremost sprinters of recent years. . Phar Lap. led for the last 11 furlongs, and had a comfortable win in • the St, Leger Stakes. This was Pike’s third win during-the afternoon. He won the St. Leger on Strephon last year. Phar Lap has won £17,467 in stakes. Romany Rvo has directed attention to his Cup prospects by finishing fast in fourth place. Parsee led all the way in the Brunswick Stakes, and won comfortably. Nadean just beat Plunderer over 10 furlongs on the course proper in 2mmi 1/sec. Panola did two furlongs in23|see. Phar Lap and Eillum covered three furlongs in 38Jsec.
