DIVORCES IN CANADA
AUTHORITY OF THE SENATE. PROPOSAL FOR ABOLITION. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph— Copyright.) OTTAWA, February 25. The abolition of the authority of the Senate to decide divorce cases was proposed in the House of Commons by Mr Henri Bourassa, Independent member for Quebec, who declared that the granting of divorces was an “ abnorm-1. function.” When this was done the judicial officials could state what alternative could be adopted by means of the courts. At present the majority of divorces are granted through the Senate with a large number of Roman Catholic members, who arc opposed to divorce, refusing to vote.
