YOUNG WOMAN’S BRAVERY.
GALLANT EFFORT IN SURF. THREE PERSONS RESCUED. ’ (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February 26. ' 4fter a gallant struggle, and without assistance, Miss lola Muhro, aged 18, rescued three persons from drowning at Muriwai Beach. Seeing two young men and a woman being carried out seaward, she swain through the breakers and. brought ashore Frank Cother, who was. exhausted. Returning, she reached Jack Elliott, who was making a desperate fight against the undertow, although unable to swim. He sent Miss Mnnro to assist Miss Frances Kell, whom she brought ashore nearly unconscious and herself exhausted. After a brief rest she plunged Into the breakers again, and reached the spot where Elliott had just sunk. She dived,’ dragging him to the surface, and reached the shore, where the third rescue was effected with assistance.' It was three hours before Elliott regained consciousness.
