BAND CONTEST.

P FLAT CORNET COMPETITION. B GRADE SECOND TEST AND AGGREGATE. BOTH WON BY OAMARU. \ —~" , The championship band.contest was continued yesterday at the Town Hall. ' In the morning the boys’ solo contest was, - concluded, and practically the whole day was occupied with the B flat cornet solo, the. judge (Mr Schnack) recalling five of the competitors. The final will be de- . decided to-morrow night. In the. boys’ competition the judge was very much impressed with the performance of S. Crisp, who played the euphonium, and scored 15 points .more than the competitor placed second. Mr Schnack said thajt the winner stood out in a class by himself, and was fit to rank with any company. Tuneful and compact. Chanson D’Amour, Andante espress: Fairly well opened. Euphonium playing well, but accompaniments are somewhat unmusical. FromT2 well played, from 18 principals work well together, and band is better. A few untuneful chords; 26 well played. Final chord a little out,of tune, Fugato, Allegro moderate: Rather ragged to open, answer better, third voice does very well, , trebles enter well. TO-NIGHT’S PROGRAMME. To-night’s programme at the Town Hall, „ .*” e A Grade second test. “ Sonata Pathetique,” will be heard, should provide a greater musical treat than did the first test. At the conclusion of to-night’s selections the result of the A Grade contest will be announced. The public is requested to note that the first event to-’ night will commence at 7.30. To-morrow evening’s programme should also prove very interesting, as it includes the recalls from the Quartets, Trios, the Cornet Solo, the B flat Cornet Solo, selections by the A and B Grade winning bands and organ solos by Dr W. G. .Price. At Carisbrook on Saturday afternoon the A and B Grade Quickstep Contest will be the principal attraction, and the massed displays in each grade- should provide a fine spectacle. An additional attraction will be a display by the Bugle Band. The programme will commence at 2 pm and conclude at 5.15 p.m. On Saturday evening a delightful programme shouM be heard at the Town Hall, when the A and B Grade Own Choice Contest will bTing 1 the contest to ar conclusion.
