MEETING OF OTAGO CENTRE.

The monthly meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held. last.night, and was presided over'by the president (Mr £. L. Macassey). The Roslyn Presbyterian Harrier and Amateur Athletic Club wrote applying for affiliation to the centre.—Received.

It was decided to forward the application to the New Zealand Council, with a recommendation that it be granted. A letter was received from the secretary of the New Zealand Council regarding. J. G. Leckie’s performance in the hammer-throw event at Milton on February 15, stating that, all certificates must be forwarded as if it were a New Zea-

An application was made by the Otago Amateur Cycling Club for ■ permission to hold the following cycle races at the Caledonian Ground: March 15,25-mile B grade championship of Otago and two-mile scratch race (under 19 years of age); March 26, one mile and a-half open handicap, three-mile scratch race (under 19 years of age), and two laps ladies’ handicap; March 27, _ 10-mile Otago championship and one-mile scratch, race (under 19 years).—The application was granted. ■ A -letter was received from the Olympic Harrier Club, Wellington, requesting particulars regarding the date arranged for the Edmond Cup race for 1930. It was also asked, in the event of the club’s being able to send a team to Dunedin, what arrangements could b’e made regard-' ing billeting, etc. The secretary of the Otago University Athletic Club wrote requesting the transfer to that club of a member of the Anglican Club who was attending the Univer-

sity, in time for him to compete in tbe University Championships.—The request was granted, subject to the athlete concerned making a personal application. The appointments of Mr 0. K. Heaton as treasurer of the centre, and Mir J. W. Holley ns record steward, were confirmed. ■ The secretary of the centre (Mr E. C, Isaacs) was appointed manager of the Otago team to compete at the New Zealand Championships at Wanganui, and, Messrs Isaacs and J. W. Holley were elected as delegates from the centre. It was resolved to write to the extreasurer of the centre (Mr R. Swinney) and convey to him the thanks of the centre for tbe way in which he bad always been, ready to do his best in the interests

of rsport: ' A vote of thanks was passed to Mr P. W. Breen for his assistance in entertaining ( the two visiting athletes, Lermond and'Golding, and it was resolved to write to Mr D. M, Lister, thanking him for placing his motor car at the disposal of the centre on different occasions. With regard to the unfortunate necessity of removing from the programme of last meeting the half-mile invitation race, in which Lermond ■ and Golding were to have competed, it was stated that these athletes had refused to run, on the grounds that; they would be unable to run the full distance. They stated that they .should have been consulted before the’ programme was made up. ,
