RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION.
EXECUTIVE MEETING. The executive of the committee of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association met last night ii the club rooms. The president (Mr A. M'Hutchon) occupied the chair. MEMBERSHIP. The secretary (Mr J. M. White) reported that one new member had come forward, and one /resignation had been accepted. The Dunedin Association’s total membership at February 15 was 1404, and the Christchurch Association's 1301. LAWRENCE REUNION. Mr W. F. Forrester reported having attended n returned soldiers’ social evening at Lawrence last Saturday evening. LOCAL REUNION. The question of holding a reunion of ex-service men in Dunedin was discussed, and the following committee was set up to go into the question, of advertising and other arrangements:—Messrs R. Fullarton, J. Skinner, H. L. Paterson, H. Walker, and A. C. Laing, Mr A, Gordon moved that the date of the reunion should be altered to Juno i. —lt was decided to adhere to the original date— June 21. • LAND MATTERS. ' v The Lands Committee's report stated; —Representations have been made that the preferei'Ce blocks granted to employees of Mr R. Acton Adams by the Land Board are not In order, and the Land Board’s authority for recommending absolute preference to these applicants is questioned. The committee agrees with the objection which has been raised, and recommends that a deputation, from the committee should wait on the Lands Board at its nest meeting to place the views of the association before it.—The report was adopted. RELIEF MEASURES., Correspondence was received from the Red Cross Society regarding co-operation with the association in the matter of affording relief to unemployed es-soldicrs, and it was suggested that a conference of the organisations should be held. —This course was agreed to, and Messrs A. M’Hutchon, H- L. Paterson, and the secretary were appointed the association’s delegates. VISIT TO MATARAE. Mr P. S. Anderson reported having visited the artillery camp at Matarae on Feburnary 16. The men in comp all appeared very keen, and the representatives of the association were met with a very cordial reception, TRENTHAM' SCHOLARSHIPS. The matter of Trentham scholarships was discussed, and it was stated that very few people were aware of the benefits that could be obtained by the children of deceased soldiers. There was some discussion on ways and means of making the information public, and it was decided to refer the matter to the Unemployment Committee to bring forward a recommendation to the next meeting.
