Captain Park, who will bo permanently stationed at Green Island, left yesterday morning on a tour of Central Otago and the Southern Lakes district with a view to inpeeting suitable landing places in the event of a regular air service being established, 7 After the weekly rehearsal of the Congregational Ciiurch Choir last week the members entertained Mr Alfred Walmsley, the newly-appointed conductor, at supper. Several vocal and elocutionary items were given, and opportunity '-uis taken by the conductor of becoming acquainted with individual members of the choir. The Rev. Mr Albert Mead expressed the pleasure of members of the choir at finding themselves under Mr Wahnleys leadership, and assured him iSh ]o y al support. In his remarks Mr Walmsle.v mentioned that while in London he had taken a special course in choral and choir work. He realised that the Moray Place Choir had a reputation to live up to. and it would be his constant aim to maintain the standard of former years. He was prepared to coach new members, and was more than willing to nsust members in any of their vocal efforts. He looked forward to a very happy and successful time with them At last nighty meeting of the St. Hilda Borough Council. Mr C. S. Burk, who has been appointed district records clerk to the Borough of Invercargill, tendered his resignation from the position of assistant town clerk of St. Hilda. The Mayor (Mr ! Beattie) said that whilst he regretted Mr Burk was leaving them, it was satisfactory to know that he was bettering himself. Mr Burk had been a faithful and efficient servant to the council, and the ratepayers and councillors alike would miss him. Several other councillors supported the Mayor’s remarks, and it was decided there be placed ou record an appreciation of Mr Burk’s services to the council.
