OBITUARY
! MR. CHARLES SNODGRASS. PROMINENT HEADMASTER. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, February 3. The death is announced of Mr Charles Snodgrass, who was born at Rotorua in 1857. He was educated in England, and served in the New South Wales Education Department for more than 40 years. He was headmaster of several leading schools. , MR WILLIAM E. WHITCOMBE. The death occurred suddenly at St. Albans, Christchurch, on’ Friday,., of Mr William Eustace Whitcombo, at the age of 82 years. Mr Whitcombe, who was born at Jersey, was the third son of Captain D. Whitcombe, of the Madras Royal Artillery. He was educated in England and France, and he came to New Zealand in 1864 with his brother, Mr C. D. Whitcombe. He saw several years’ service in the Maori war and gained the New Zealand medal. In 1901 he left the North Island and took up his residence in Christchurch, where he was connected with the firm of Messrs Pyne and Co. for 20 years. He is survived by a widow, one son, and sis daughters. His brother, Mr G. H. Whitcombe, was the founder of the firm of Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs, Ltd.
