It was brought to public notice recently by a ceremony beside the Kingston by-pass road, near the village of Kingston Vale, when an oak tree was planted and dedicated to the memory of a flying officer who was killed in the war. The planting of trees • along new roads has been greatly assisted by the work of the Roads Beautifying Association. If this work is linked up with the idea of commemoration, as in the case of “ oaks of memory/' it may be “ speeded up,” and, at the same time,, people will be encouraged to care for trees and protect them in a new way, because of their associations.
