(Peb United Pbess Association:) - WAIPDKURAU, January 20. Edward Leahey, aged 20, 4 labourer, appeared in the Police Court charged with robbing an old man, Bartholomew, Maloney, of 11s, and also with brutally assaulting him. It appears that the pair had been drinking during the day on January 6. When Maloney went to rest in a shed the offence was committed. The accused pleaded guilty, and waa.committted to the Supreme Court for ■ sentence. ' . ■ ' __ PALMERSTON N., January 20.. The Manawatu Gorge was reopened for railway traffic this morning, with, a train leaving at 5 o’clock. A special train was despatched with the goods that had accumulated since the line became blocked. MASTERTON, January 20. Harold Edmond, M'Cutcheon, aged 21, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court this morning to the -theft of a motor cycle, valued at £57. 10s, which he purchased at New Plymouth under a Eire purchase agreement, and which was sold by him at Auckland while £34 was still owing on the machine. He was admitted to probation for 12 months.' GREYMOUTH, January 20. ■ , James M'Sooley, a miner, a recent arrival from Scotland, was fined £3, with costs, for kissing a girl, aeed 8J years, at her home at Taylorville yesteaday. The girl was left in charge of her younger brothers. M'Sooley followed the diildren into the house. The girl’s screams brought assistance. M'Sooley said the girl had reminded him of his ownchildren in Scotland. ' ■ ’ '.
