( WELLINGTON, January 20. ~ The Wellington Cup. meeting was continued in very boisterous and windy weather. A gale blew throughout the afternoon, and hats were seen frequently soaring high 1 in the air. The track was a bit on the soft side at the opening, but, under constant rolling and the influence of the wind, it improved during the afternoon. There was a good deal of interference in the principal event. Concentrate being the principal sufferer, and Latin Quarter also struck trouble. Despite the fact that Bright Glow seemed to be harshly handicapped, she received strong support and justified the confidence by winning in a good finish with Pride. Concentrate had his chance wrecked by being sent back on the rails. Star Stranger saw a good race under his weight, but In the Shade and Amor met with trouble which blocked the way to a possible chance of success. The Douro Cup was a scrambling sort of a race, and a horse was lucky to obtain anything like a clear passage. Mervette won in good style, apd finished so strongly that "a win over more ground in good company should not be beyond her power. The others in the Metropolitan Handicap all had a fair run, but had no chance with the favourite. Mr Price again did excellent work at the barrier, and created such a favourable impression that there is sure to bo a growing demand for his services as a starter. Master Clarence and Arronzone were struck out of the High-weight Handicap, and Mister Gamp and King’s Jest were made much better favourites than Fine Acre. Diana’s Lad and Mothplane were showing the way in the back stretch and along to the far turn, where Courageous had tailed off. Mothplane, Fine Acre, and Vivo led a bunched field into tile straight. Fine Acre looked a winner at the distance, but Marsham. on the rails, and King’s Jest put in a strong claim. King’s Jest finished on well, and won by a length from Marsham, who boat Fine Acre by half a length. Mister Gamp made up ground from the turn, and finished close up with Llyn Dim. Jaloux was a pronounced favourite for the Trial Plate, but he began badly and was last to leave, with Chang and Waterline. Dancing Star drew; out, and led Auctioneer and Portray round the top, where Jaloux wan moving up. Water-

Hue got to Dancing Star as they turned for home, and taking charge, won all out by a length from Jalour, who got up and beat Gay Greet by a head. Portray was close_ up, fourth, and Banbridge and Auctioneer were next. Jaloux seemed unlucky to miss a win, as he had to make up a lot of ground to get near the front. Antique was the popular pick for the January Handicap, but he got badly away. Great Charter. Clarendon, The Hawk, and Teri wore smartest away, and Joy Bird soon joined the leaders. Clarendon led Teri, Joy Bird, Great Charter, Ti Tree, Tho Hawk, and Full Mark round the far turn, and Royal Game was joining the front lot When turning for home. Clarendon, Teri, and Royal Game led Great Charter, The Hawk, and Full Mark into the straight, with Full Feather coming wide on the outside. Great Charter came through on the rails, and in a good finish with Teri won by half a length.,. The Hawk was two lengths and a-half away third, followed by Rory Hot. Chopin. High Falutin’. artd Tdheka. Night Lad got squeezed back last at the far turn. All on the card Went out for the Nursery Handicap, and Awaken, Jenny Diver, Princess Betty, and Dunraven were regarded as'nio't likely to supply the winner from the indications of the betting. Rapallo, Dunraven, _ Princess Betty, and Awaken were racing in charge to the turn, where Princess Betty got carried out. Rapallo, Dunraven, and Princess Betty were ifi charge at the distance, and then Green .Linnet, Awaken, and Jenny Diver joined . them. A good finish saw Green Linnet beat Awaken by half a length, with Jenny Diver a neck away. Rapallo, Dunraven, Appledore, and Princess Betty were next. Historic was taken out of the W.R.C. Handicap through _ developing lameness. The betting was fairly even between the first four on the list. Star Stranger finishing with £77 more support thin Concentrate. They bloke away to an excellent line, but In the Shade got knocked back Met. Amofi soon took charge from Stanchion, Concentrate, Latin Quarter, and Bright Glow as they ran past the stand to the turn out of the straight. Racing to the mile post, Ruanui and White Fang ran to the front, and Concentrate got sent back on the rails and Latin Quarter also lost ground. Ruanui, White Fang, and , Stanchion led to the fat turn with Bright Glow, and Amor got sent back. Ruanui and White Fang led round the top with Bright Glow, Stanchion, Pride, Shrewd. Latin Quarter, and Star Stranger, while Concentrate was moving up. "White'Fang and Ruanui were still in charge as they straightened . for home, but at the distance Bright Glow and Pride went _ past them, and Star Stranger and Latin;Quarter were coming on. Bright Glow finished on well and beat Pride by a neck. Lai in Quarter was over two lengths away, with Star Stranger close up, followed by Goshawk and Shrewd.

In tiie Douro Cup Cuticle was first to show out from a good start with Rational 11. To Awhina, Grecian, Disorder, Pedestal, Assemble, and Limosin forming the leading division. As they ran along to the hack Disorder lost her place and so did Dolomite, Rational It, Grecian, Te Awhina, Limosin, and Assemble being the leaders round the top in a packed field. Limosin and Rational II led into the straight from Grecian, Te Awhina, and Assemble where Pahu, who had been last along the back, appeared amongst the loaders. Rational II and To Awhina singled themselves out and in a good finish the former won by > half a length. Pahu was three lengths away third, with Grecian next, and then came Pedestdl, Pateroa.i Prinde of Orange. My Own, and Blue Metal. Assemble dropped out in the straight, and Blue Metal was in the middle of a packed field as' they come round the top. , Head Sevang was behind the leaders coming round the top, but, like others, would have been lucky to pet a glear run in. su’eh a big field. Pahu seemed the unluckiest horse in the field as he had to make up a great deal of ground Oyer the last Six. furlongs. Mervette started a solid favourite for the Metropolitan Handicap in a goodbetting race. They got away from a good start. Meadow Lark, Royal Saxon, Aspiring, Groat Star, Leader, and Mervette wore smartest away, and Keddar was last to leave. Great Star, Royal Saxon, Aspiring,, and Leader led Cimabue and Meadow Lark into the straight. Great Star. Aspiring, and Royal Saxon were racing in lino at the distance, and a little later Mervette came through on the rails, and Cimabne joined the leaders. Mervette came on with a strong run and won by one length and a-half from Cimabue, with Aspiring the same distance away.v Royal Saxon, Meadow Lark, Panther, Leader, and Eaglet were next in the order, named. _ Havasnot was a strong order for the Camp -Handicap and was very unlucky to.rmss a win. Ho waa blocked on the rails 100 yards from home, and when ha had room just failed to, head off Dutch Money. Kahu. Ariki, Sunfcissed, Quin Opal, Habit, and Dutch Money were the early leaders. Dutch Money and Habit were fighting it out in the straight when Hayaspot drew up, but failed to get through. Dutch Money finally won by a head from Havaspot. who beat Habit by half a length. Ex Dono, Proud Knight, ■Glenrossie, and Spearful were bunched behind the placed lot
