PERSONAL.
Ministerial. The Minister of Railways (Mr W. B. Taverner ) is at present making an official tour of inspection of lines in Otago and Southland. He will probably leave for Wellington a train next w f ~l- - f --- Mr J. H. Duncan, manager for Messrs H. L.Tapley and Co., has recovered from a serious illness and resumed his official duties. Mr Duncan F. Bauchop, general manager in Hew Zealand on a business visit to England. Mr Bauchop will be absent for about five months. . ' 1- years’ service with the Australian Mutual Provident Society will be comp eted to-day by Mr G. F. Francis, Auckland manager of the society Mr If rancis has enjoyed a highly successful career since he. joined the society on January 7, 1880. He climbed the ladder of promotion step by step until to-day he has charge of the largest district office in the Dominion. He started in Welling, ton, and after several years of study in the branches of higher mathematics he was offered, hut did not accept, a position on the actuarial staff in Sydney. At the age of 21 he was appointed manager » Oamaru, and, subsequently, had charge , 68 in Wanganui and Christchurch before going to Auckland.
