Acceptances for the Vincent meeting are due to-day. Handicaps for the Wellington Cup meeting are due on Friday. The veteran Solferino gelding Count Cavour has won 15,80450 vs in stakes. A very poor lot of hurdlers are on the scene at present. The Lucallus—Lisp filly Lilt, which was_ taken to Western Australia by C. Christie, is amongst recent winners in that part of the world. Hunting Cry won one of six races as a two-year-old and this season has scored seven wins out of 12 starts. Mr C. E. Hassall has been appointed handicapper for the racing events at the Gore summer meeting. The Dunedin Cup programme has been issued and has for its chief features the Dunedin Cup, of lOOOsovs, including a gold cup valued at lOOsovb and the James Hazlett Gold Cup, of 450sovs, and a gold cup valued at lOOsovp, These events are principally supported by the Dunedin Jockey Club Handicap, of 425sovs, the Publican's Handicap, of 400sovs, and the Champagne Stakes, of 400sovs. Nominations are due on Friday, January The death is reported from Australia of Comedy King, who won the Melbourne Cup of 1910. Comedy King was also a successful sire and got a number of good winners. At the dispersal of Mr S. Green’s stud Comedy King was sold tor 7300 guineas. The death is reported of the famous American horse Fair Play, the sire of Man o’ War, who was generally regarded as the greatest racehorse ever seen in America. B. H. Brodie won well-deserved praise fop the excellent horsemanship he displayed during the recent holiday meetings. He rides with excellent judgment, and •aeks nothing in the way of vigour when calling on a mount in a hard fighting finish. Mr A. D. MTvor has frequently laid himself open to a charge of imduly favouring fractious horses to the detriment of others standing up quietly at the barrier. He went to extremes at Invercargill by placing 1 Francolln behind the field on the first day and on the second day when he had more grounds for acting m the same manner with Lucky Light, Coomassie, and. Red Boa he failed to exercise his authority even though they caused a delay of about 20 minutes at the post. Pangohli was ticked off as nest door to a certain winner at the Auckland Cup meeting, but he failed in each of four starts. The Australian-bred gelding Glare, who won the Invercargill Cup. was got by Australian Sun (son of the English Derby winner Sunatar). from Lady Travancore, by Flaws, from Sea Moon, by NelsonMo onga. Sea Moon is a sister to Seahorse, who won the New Zealand Cup, • and f, De , rby * nnd Canterbury Cup l n , 1899. Seahorse was subsequently taken to England, and was afterwards sold to go to the United States to race over fences. The death is reported from Auckland of Air John Marshall, one of the oldest, members and stewards of the Auckland Racing Club. He was elected a life member of the chib. Amongst the horses he owned at different times were Necklace, Derringer Thunderbolt, Turquoise, Pearl Necklet won th® V.R.C.
