SYMPATHY WITH NEW ZEALAND DAIRY FARMER.

(From Oos Own Correspondent.) -j YANCOUVER, December 11, , Canadian wheat growers are sympathise ing with New Zealand dairy farmera/iif their mutual effort to market theirjprof duct. Disclosures at the recent Royal Commission on wheat revealed that th* superior hard wheat of the prairie is mixed by American /oncernS with soft wheat grown in the Unite! States and sold on the world markets ag Canadian wheat. j .. New Zealand butter suffers from 2 similar adulteration. The charge is modi that dealers in England add quantities of salt, paraffin or plain milk. The butte! is then wqrked over, repacked, relabelled* and then sold to the consumer as hicKS grade New Zealand butter. Bv this de? vice it is said to be easy to add at least? 10 per cent, to the volume of the buttere this being profit to the mixer. J It is expected that the Federal Govt ernment at Ottawa will legislate to vent the pood name of Canadian wheat', being so injured. New grading standards are contemplated. The New Zealand Government has also considered what measures may be taken to maintain the reputation of New Z'-uiand butter. In Denmark, its great competitor in the Old Country butter trade, the official brand of the Government -is stamped on every firkin of Danish butter, on every ckc. ham, flitch of bacon, and cheese. It is believed that-this safeguard has effectively checked any such malpractice, if 'her ever rcallv existed to any degree.
