QUEENSTOWN NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) QUEENSTOWN, January 3, THE WEATHER. The weather throughout the Christmas holidays was not at all what we are accustomed to. The barometer has see-sawed in a most unusual manner—up one day and down another—and the weather conditions have shown as many vagaries i ortunately, rain has not fallen continu ously for any length of time, so that the hundreds of people who have been holidaying here have not been kept in doors for long. The campers have had their patience tried, but they have taken a philosophic view of the matter. The last two days have been very pleasant, and it is hoped that \vc are in for some really summer days. GENERAL. Yesterday a one-day excursion from Invercargill and the principal intermedia'-!’ stations was nm to Queenstown, about 500 people availing themselves of the oppor tunity of a day’s outing at Wakatipn ihe excursionists arrived here at 1 o’clo-k and took their departure for home at 5 p.m. It is considered that there have been more people in Queenstown for the hot*days than ever before. Certainly all the places of accomodation hav> been full to overflowing, while the numbers of people under canvas has considerably exceeded tiiat of any year since the camping ground was established. At New Year there were over 100 tents on that reserve, while tn nv others were erected on the outskirts of the town. All the available furnished houses were occupied, while furnished rooms were all taken up. An exodus has now commenced, so that there should be accommodation available for others who want to make a holiday in Queenstown. .. , personal. Mr Justice Kennedy spent a night in Queenstown during the week. Among the arrivals here to-day were iMr Isaac Stevenson. Miss Annie Stevenedin Mr and Mrs J ’ Fra ’ cr - of Dun ' BOWLING.
