WAIPAHI SCHOOL.

The prize-giving ceremony of the WaiPahi School took place on Wednesday Mr James Kerr, chairman of the School Committee, presided, and complimented the teachers and scholars on the year’s work. Messrs T. E. Whiteside'and J. Campbell also spoke. Several items were given by the pupils, and Mrs R. T. Murray played a pianoforte solo. Air J. R. Pullar (headmaster), on behalf of himself and Miss Alelrose (assistant), thanked the committee and parents for their support and interest, making special reference to the help given in preparing the .school concert.

The break-up ceremonies in connection with the Tokomairiro District High School commenced yesterday afternoon with the distribution of prizes to pupils in the infant room up to Standard 11. The principal function was reserved for last night at the Coronation Hall, when there was a large attendance of parents add friends of the scholars. The dux gold medals in the secondary and primary departments were presented, also the dux gold medal for sewing, in addition to the Sports trophies. The Rev. William Gatman . (chairman of the School Committee) presided, and a bright programme of musical items was rendered by the pupils. Prior to the break-up concert of last evening, Brighton school children provided a very successful fancy dress function. The pupils took the floor till 10.30 p.m.. and thoroughly delighted the large audience with their exhibition of marching, folk dances, and nursery games. The distribution of prizes 'in the primary department of the Mosgiel District High School took place in the school gardens on Thursday afternoon in the presence of a representative gathering of parents and friends. Mr H. Miller (chairman of the School Committee) presided, and was assisted in the distribution of prizes by Dr J. P. Shaw (Forms I-II), the Rev. Baylisss (Standards 111-IV), Commandant Lammond (Standards I-II), and the Rev. A. L. Canter (Infant Department). Those present availed themselves of the opportunity of inspecting the school gardens and the recently remodelled Infant Department. At the conclusion of the ceremony the rector thanked Mr E. R. Brain (substituted assistant) and- Miss I. Brown (probationer) for_ their work during the year, and also Miss Jean Hendry for her valuable help in preparing for the school concert. On behalf of pupils and staff, Mr Brain handed to each of these teachers tokens of regard and appreciation, with best wishes for future success.
