HELD UP BY SNOW
THE GEOLOGICAL PARTY.
SLEDGES NEARLY BURIED,
Special to Press Association from
the Byrd Expedition by / Rue sell Owejt. (Copyright.) BAY OF WHALES, December 17.
Gould sent the following radio message from Queen Maud Mountains: “It is still snowing, and there is no prospect of an immediate change in the weather. The sledges are nearly buried in the snow. The dogs are living in holes, and our tents are half-covered. Everything is wet and soggy, for it is warm, and there is much melting. We hope your roofs do not leak like our tents. It is not 40 below, but this kind of weather makes sledging hard work. We left our few books at Camp Strom. We have on deck of cards, and play hearts and bridge for chocolate as a pastime. There are mountains on three sides of us, but we can see nothing. Everyone is in high spirits in spite of the weather.”
LEADER OF THE EXPEDITION.
PROMOTION SUGGESTED.
WASHINGTON, ■ December 18. (Received Dec. 19, at 9 p.m.)
