Sir Janies Allen has received a letter from Sir JJabian Ware, vice-chairman of fu® Imperial Win- Graves Commission, written at Constantinople on October IJ, trom which the following is an extract;—’ 1 have just spent two days with Hughes on the Peninsula, and thought that you would like to hear from- me at first hand, how things arc going there. I had not been there tor four years, and was-V-ery pleased )vith the development of the cemcteries; in yours as in all others (except in the one or two right down by the seaside exposed to salt spray) the trees- are growing well—cypress, pine, and tamarisk and the effect of large spherical clumps of rosemary i s excellent. ’ The horticultural work done by Kelt in this respect is really very remarkable, and though we cannot grow the flowers we ■ii i lU *i • ll(:o a ? d Belgium, they quite Uolcl their own m comparison with the Z™ toncs t r le }' c ' aud have a dignity and v eac^ ful Permanent appearance winch was very moving, to my mind I & n > „ k!
