OBITUARY
SIR HENRY JACKSON. (United Press Association,) (By Electric Telegraph^— Copyright.) LONDON, December 15. (Received Dec. 15, at 5.5 p.m.) The death is announced of Admiral of the Fleet Sir Henry Bradwardine Jackson, who was First Sea Lord during the war; aged 74. MR O. P. BASTINGS. The death occurred at Blenheim last week after a long illness of Mr O. P. Bastings. He spent his boyhood at Milton, Otago, and in Dunedin, where ho served hia' apprenticeship as a chemist. After .qualifying he was in business in Tapanui, Manaia, and Invercargill. On the outbreak of the war. Mr . Bastings enlisted with the Main Body as a medical orderly, and he saw service on the Gallipoli Peninsula until he was invalided home early in 1916, his health being permanently undermined as a result of his experiences. On settling down to civilian life again Mr Bastings went to Blenheim as manager of Paul’s Pharmacy, and he acquired the business in 1920 or 1921 and conducted it successfully until about 18 months ago, when his health finally broke down. Mr Bastings was a keen and enthusiastic member of the Blenheim Bowling Club, and was a member of Dr R. Noble-Adams’s rink which took part in the Dominion tournament at Christchurch early lost year.
