BRIGHTON’S LOST GIRLS.

DISTRAUGHT MOTHERS. Eleven girls between the ages of 16 and 20 disappeared from their homes in Brighton, quite recently, and were being anxi ously sought by their parents. Some of the girls had been missing for as long as two months, while others tied disappeared during only a few days. Full descriptions of the girls were circulated and the police of various districts searched for them. The mother of one missing girl stated that she, like the other mothers, was dis traught with grief at her daughter’s disappearance. “ I do not want my name mentioned because of what people will say about my girl, but if you will publish what I say it may prevent other girls from making the same mistake. " Some time before my daughter went she_ met a young man who was here on holiday. He had a good deal of money to spend, and my daughter used to go riding in. the country in his car. One day she went and did not return. “ I am sure that she is not staying away of her own accord. She had a good home here. She is either afraid to come back home because of what people will say of her. or else the man who took he' away has some hold over her. “ I am sure that all the mothers whose daughters arc missing would be ready to forgive anything that has happened if they would come back.” The epidemic of missing girls is bf lieved to have followed the increase in the number of girls who stroll along the front at night and accept the invitations of,men to go joy-riding in their motor cars.
