DIRT TRACK RACING.

THRILLS AT FORBURY PARK. MOTOR CYCLE AND ATHLETIC CONTESTS. : Those who hod a desire for thrills were well catered for at Forbury- Park on Saturday afternoon, when a combined programme of dirt track racing and general athletic events -was presented under the auspices -of• the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Aifiateur Athletic Association. The weather, was all that could be desired, the light south-westerly breeze being just sufficient to keep the atmosphere from becoming oppressively hot. Public patronage of the sports meeting was very good, the attendance being estimated at over 5000. The principal motor cycle race of the day, the Forbury Park Championship, was won by C. F. Hasler, who also rode consistently well in the other events. The most outstanding performance of the day, however, was put up by D. R. Millar, ■who won the St. Kilda Handicap, thy Otago Motor Club Handicap, and the Ocean Beach Handicap, securing easy victories in all three finals. In the athletic events B. Provo gave an excellent display in th pole vault handicap, jumping 10 feet 6 inches from scratch, and beating the existing Otago record for this event. Although there were 20 events on the programme, such was the excellence of the arrangements for t e carrying out of the meeting that the last event was finished well up to time.
