FORESTERS

There was a large attendance of members at the last meeting of Court Pride of the Leith, a prominent feature of the meeting being the presence of several of the older members, who received a special welcome from C.R. Bro, H. W. Cockburn. One new member was admitted and one member accepted by clearance. There were good entries to the competitions in rendering the chief charges, and the judges had trouble in deciding the winners in each section. The C.R. competition was won by I.P.C.R. Bro. A. W. Jones, with P.C.R. Bro. Gaudin second, and the P.C.R. competition was won by P.C.R. Bro. W. J. Duncan, with I.P.C.R. Bro. Jones second. In responding to the toast of “ The Visitors.” P.DC.R.’s Bros. W. Sinclair and T. M'Ahan, who also acted as the judges, complimented the court for holding the competition, and gave at length several points of advice to members taking part in future contests. Two nominations were accepted and the meeting closed with an interchange of seasonable greeting from and to the C.R. Although the night of meeting of Court Pride of Alexandra was very wet and stormy, there was a large attendance of members present, over 50 in all, under the charge of C.R. Bro. O’Reilly. Shortly after the opening 40 members from Courts Star of the Dunstan (Clyde) and Roxburgh were admitted and welcomed. One new member was admitted, the principal, charge being tf'vcn by P.C.R. Sister MTvinnon, of Court Roxburgh, and the I.P.C.R. charge was . rendered by P.C.R. Bro. de Suva, also of Court Roxburgh, and both these officers gave a splendid rendering of the charges.. A letter was received from an invalid member thanking the court for its continued help, and the court decided to appeal to the Executive for .assistance to a member in distress. A social was held after the meeting closed, and C.R. Bro, O’Reilly welcomed the visitors. C.S. Bro, John Smart replied on behalf of Court Star of the Dunstan and P.C.R. Sister on behalf of Court Roxburgh. Dancing was indulged ln to a late hour to music supplied by an orchestra of seven members, and a pleasant and successful function terminated. Ihe. fortnightly meeting of Court Ex-, celsior %yas held on Tuesday last, and well attended. The C.R., Bro. J. -*•; Wilson, presided, and in the course or the meeting read . a section of the paper prepared by District Secretary wo, J,. K. Micfic, on Friendly Society finance, which was being found to be interesting and instructive to members. One new member was admitted and one : nomination received. The juvenile branch. Court Excelsior’s Pride, was entertained after the meeting to games and supper, and C.R. Bro. N. Walmsley returned thanks on behalf of the youthful members. The monthly meeting of Court Excelsiors Pride was held on Thursday Inst, under the direction of C.R, Bro. ■N. vuimsley. One new member was admitred. shooting match proved excit* mg and enjoyable, and the meeting ended With supper kindly given by P.C.R. Bro. G, D. Hay. The last meeting of Court Little John was w-ell attended and was presided over by y.R. Sister. Dreaver. Sympathy was passed to a sister who had suffered a recent bereavement, members standing in silence, P.C.R. Bro. A. S. Arrangements were completed for the anniversary of the juvenile branch and also for entertaining the sisters at next meeting. P.C.R. Bro. Gibson reported that good progress was being ky the juvenile branch and tha whole district during the year; two new branches had been opened and another was to be instituted shortly. Court King Edward’s Pride held its fortnightly meeting on Thursday last. Sister Fraser, C.R., presided over a good attendance. Official visits were received from the. card teams from Courts Saint Andrews, Pride of Green Island, -Woodland’s Pride, Queen of Green Island, and Enterprise.' Arrangements were completed for the opening of the juvenile branch, and also for the Christmas treat for children of members. Sisters Chalmers and Godfrey, P.C.R.’s Bros. Chalmers and Brettell, and C.R. Bro. Leyland responded to the toast of “The Visitors.” Six new members were admitted and one nomination received, and a pleasant meeting closed with, supper. Court Pride. of Green Island held its usual meeting on Wednesday last at the hall, Green Island. C.R. Bro. W. Kane presided. An invitation was accepted from Court Woodland’s Pride to a social evening. It .was announced that the benefit concert in aid of a member in distress was set down for Tuesday evening,, and all members -were urged to give their support to the worthy object. P.D.C.R. Bro. T. M’Ahan gave a report on his visit to Milton, and on the unveiling of the tablet to the late Bro. Dickson. One new member was admitted and two nominations were received. The usual meeting of Court Pride of Gore was held on Thursday last, when Sister Reid presided over a good attendance of members. One new member was initiated and one candidate was nominated before the meeting closed, when a very enjoyable social was held. There was a fair attendance of members of Court Queen of Green Island at its last meeting,the C.R., Sister C. Kane, presided Treasurer Bro. M’Ahnn reported on the visit to Milton and spoke on the unveiling of the memorial tablet to the late Bro. Dickson, of Court Bruce. Members were urged to make a special effort to increase the membership next year. The resignation of one member was received with regret, and as she was intending to marry shortly, it was decided to hold a social evening ,in her honour next month. At the. last meeting for the year of Couit Faith of. Green Island, practically every member was present. C.R. Sister A. Kane was in the. chair. Three new members were admitted, and the membership of this new branch is now 37. Every member present received the badge of the A.0.F., and was entertained at a surprise supper provided by the adult sisters, and with surprise gifts. Hearty appreciation was shown to all who were responsible for the arrangements, and “Auld Lang Syne ” brought a memorable meeting to a close.
