DUNEDIN PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY.
The Dunedin Philharmonic Society’s forty-second concert this year will be held in His Majesty’s Theatre on Tuesday, November 10. The programme promises to be a very good one. It will he commenced with Signor Squarise’s stirring march "La Farfara Militare,” which will be followed by, Overture No. 1 in C minor (Fovoni). Two lighter compositions will be next—Andantino in D major (Lenaic), and “ Morceaux Mignonne Souvenir do Veres. The first part of the programme will conclude with "March Slav” (Techaikowsky), which is chaaracteristic of this composer’s music, being very descriptive. The second part will open with the symphonic poem, “Finlandia” (Sibelius), which is always welcome on any 1 orchestral programme. This will be followed by Mascagni's "Hymn to the Sun,” which is a very descriptive composition. The programme will conclude with “ The Slavonic Rhapsody” (Friedman), which is built on Slavonic folk songs. - The rhapsody brings out tho strong contrasts of expression, rhythm and speed. The vocalists for this concert are Miss M. Eager and Mr John Deveraux.
