GIFT TO CATHEDRAL
MODEL OF OLD WARSHIP. . AN INTERESTING SERVICE. (United Press Association.) (By Electric . Telegraph—Copyright.l LONDON, November 7*. A model of the seventeenth-century warship Mary carved out of a block of kauri, was presented to Portsmouth Cathedral by a Melbourne resident (Mr Clements Langford, a native of Portsmouth). It was handed over in the presence of 100 admirals. Master John Kempthorne, the youngest do scendant of Admiral Sir John fvomptborne,- the commander of the Mary Rose, headed the procession, after which a quartet of admiral^—Earl Jellicoe, Sir Roger Keyes, Sir Henry Oliver and Sir Somerset Calthorpe—advanced Sir Roger Keyes placing the model in position opposite to Sir John Kemptturnj’s monument, Earl Jellicoe hoisted the naval colours. The Bishop of Lichfield (Dr Kempthorne, a descendant of Sir John Kempthorne) was the preacher. The service was the first of its kind in an English cathedral.
