OAMARU MARKETS.

(Special to Daily Times.) OAMARU, November 8. Tie recent warm, soaking rains throughout North Otago during the last week have been very welcome to the farming community, and as a result the prospects for the harvest and for stock in general appear decidedly brighter. Autumn sown wheat crops came through the prolonged dry spell in good condition, and good yields seem assured, but the later sown crops were materially checked by the absence of rain and the low temperatures. Lambs will be later in coming on to the market than usual, owing to feed not being as plentiful as could be desired. An experienced North Otago breeder reports that the lambs this year are a fine healthy lot, and as high lambing percentages are prevalent in many localities, he anticipates a record lambing for the district. Given reasonable conditions in the near future the growth of crops and pastures will be greatly stimulated by the rain, thus restoring conditions in the country to normal. One transaction only is recorded on the grain market, a line of chaif chancmg hands at £5 per ton, on trucks. . Private sales pf stock during the week include the following:—Two-tooth ewes and lambs (all counted), 23s 6d; fullmouthed ewes and lambs (all counted), Iss; ewe hoggets. 28s, 30s; -wether hoggets, 255; fat wethers, 295; dairy heifers, £7 to £9; yearling heifers, £3 10s; fat heifers. £l2 10s; fat bullocks, £ls, £lB. A gelding was sold for £42.
