SECOND ADVENT CONVENTION.

The Second Advent United. Convention was continued at York Place Hall on Thursday evening, when a large number of interested persons from various churches gathered to hear an address by the Rev. Adam Clarke, of Oamaru. on “ The Purpose of the Second Advent.” Mr Frank Varley presided, and after the usual opening exercises, briefly introduced the speaker. Taking the thought of those listening back to pre-creation times, Mr Clarke had much to say concerning the visible presence of the Son of God which is spoken of in the Epistles as His Glorious Body, the Outshining of the Glory of the Father, and the Express Image of His Substance, Scripture declared concerning Him that by Him all things were made, and without Him was not anything r~.ade that was made. He was the Creator of all things, and it was by His counsel that it was said "Let us make man in our image.” Mr Clarke went on to speak of the dory and beauty that must have been in mao as he first left the hands of the Creator, Son of God. But sin came in. The perfect handiwork was marred, and the glory departed. Man was left ashamed in his own nakedness. Of all the animal creation, man was the only being having to borrow clothing to hide the shame of his nakedness. Referring to Romans viii, the speaker showed that the whole creation was waiting for the manifestation of the Son of God. The whole creation had suffered by reason of sin, but the time of its restoration to its pristine beauty and perfection was coming. Then, once again should the image of God be seen in man, for when the Son of God came the second time we should be like Him, for we should see Him ns He was. Mr Clarke was listened to throughout with rapt attention. Much that he said gave new light and new thought concerning the purpose of the Second Advent.
