GENERAL NEWS.

The Dunedin Radiant Health Club held its weekly meeting last Monday evening. The president (Mr M'Connell) presided over a good attendance, and introduced Professor Wheeler as tho speaker for the evening. Professor Wheeler's subject was “Phrenology,” and, in his opening, remarks, he mentioned that phrenology was the science of mind, psychology, physiology, and anatomy. In former years phrenology was associated with fortune-telling, but the two had no connection. All action was performed by the mind, and as the brain was the organ of the mind and the skull the covering, by exercising certain parts of the mind more than others we shaped the brain, thence the skull. He gave a number of instances of the effect of emotions on the mind. The most injurious state of mind ■ was hopelessness. Professor Wheeler spoke on relying on the memory and exercising it. Otherwise it became dormant. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Professor Wheeler for his interesting and instructive address. A very successful concert was recently held in the Glencairn Hall, Tomahawk, the proceeds being in aid of the school prize fund. The audience seemed thoroughly to enjoy the items submitted and recalls were frequent. The following contributed to the programme: Mis A. Mathieson, Misses Robertson and Sumner, Messrs D. J. Robertson, 11. Oates, and D. M'Culloch (songs), Mr , 8 Robertson and Messrs J. and N. Robertson (duets); Glee Party (part songs); Miss L. Mathieson "(recitations); Smaill’s Orchestra (instrumental items); Miss Brunton and Mr J, Mack (violin solos); Miss Price and Mr C. Mack (pianoforte solos); Mr J. Mack (mouth organ solo). Miss Sumner was the accompanist for tho evening, and was assisted by Mr Brunton and Miss Lena Henderson. The proceedings closed with a verse of the National Anthem, and dancing was indulged in for some time, the music being provided by Mesdames Brunton and R, Mathieson. Mr Hurl filled the position of M.C.
