THE SOVIET ATTACKS.

INCREASING IN INTENSITY.

Harbin despatches indicate an increase in the intensity of the Soviet attacks on the northern and eastern Manchurian fronts. Medium success is reported. ' Ten Soviet gunboats and a battalian of cavalry made a combined attack on Whangchintun (situated on the banks of the Amur River) yesterday. The fighting is being continued, and Soviet reinforcements are arriving. Everything points to the Soviet’s determination to occupy the railway area Severn] sections arc already occupied. Meanwhile China’s civil war in Honan province is developing in intensity. It is reported that an entire garrison of Government troops at Sinyeh (Southern Honan) deserted, and joined the Kuominchun forces. Chiang Kai-shek is personally directing the Government forces. The latter claim successes. Traffic on the Peking-Hankow railway has been entirely suspended.
