OBITUARY.
DB GERALD HARPER. (Feb United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 5. The death is announced from London of Dr Gerald Harper, aged 81, a brother hf Mr George Harper, of Christchurch. Dr Harper was the ninth son of the late, .Bishop Harper, the first Bishop of Christchurch, and had practised in London for nearly 50 years.
CAPTAIN ANDREW BLOOM. The death is announced in Christchurch of Captain Andrew Bloom, master mariner, who was well known on the New Zealand coast. He was born in Finland 67 years ago, and began his seafaring life at an early age. At the age of 27 he arrived in New Zealand waters, and for a number of years served on the steamer Jane Douglas under the late Captain Whitby. Later he was appointed master of the schooner Lily, in which .vessel he served for 27 years, trading chiefly between Lyttelton and Grcymoutli. The deceased retired from the sea two years ago. MR F. B. S. FALKINER. Mr F. B. S. Falkiner, whose death on October 30 at one of his station properties. “ Foxlo'w,” near Canberra. New South Wales, was reported by cable, was one’ of the leading pastoralistfi of Australia,- and a popular and well-known personality in wool and finance- circles. For a number of years Mr Falkiner sat- in the Federal - House of Representatives as member for Hume. He was a director of the Bank of New South Wales, a past president of the Sheep Breeders' Association, _ and was interested in many other a cttvities. During the war he did outstanding work as a member of the Central '* °ol Committee set up to handle the marketing of Australia’s large wool clip. As owner of the famous " Haddon Rig ” merino stud. Mr Falkiner on a number of occasions topped the market at the annual Sydney stud sheep sales for both highest individual price and average for ms whole consignment, his sales running up to £50.000.
